It’s Never Too Late to Straighten Your Teeth: Learn About Adult Orthodontics

Do you avoid smiling because your teeth are crooked or crowded? Or maybe you have an embarrassing gap between your teeth? Many adults spend years being unhappy with their smile, yet they don’t consider getting their teeth straightened.

Adults often don’t seek orthodontic treatment because they think braces are only for children. Others know that adults can get braces, but are not aware of the options.

Adults can get their teeth straightened and keep their natural appearance with options like invisible braces or clear brackets. And with the technology available at Glow Orthodontics, you can also accelerate your orthodontic treatment.

You’re never too old for orthodontic treatment

We move adult teeth the same way as children’s teeth. The concept is the same at every age: Applying gentle, but consistent, pressure to the tooth forces it to move. As the tooth moves, the jawbone gradually remodels, losing bone to accommodate tooth movement, while also growing new bone to fill in the small gap created when the tooth changes its position.

Benefits of adult orthodontics

There’s no doubt that one of the best benefits of adult orthodontic treatment is to have teeth that make you happy to smile. But a fabulous appearance isn’t the only reason adults should consider teeth straightening.

Having orthodontic problems like misaligned, crooked, and crowded teeth affects your dental health. An incorrect bite contributes to problems such as gum disease and decay. Misaligned teeth can also make it hard to chew or contribute to excessive wear on tooth enamel.

Straighten your teeth without metal braces

We understand that it’s important for adults to straighten their teeth without the appearance of metal braces, so we offer options. Here are a few examples of orthodontic methods that work well for adults:

Clear aligners

Our adult patients love clear aligners because they’re virtually invisible. Clear aligners correct many orthodontic problems that are less complicated. You’ll wear the clear, plastic trays over your upper and lower teeth, much like a mouthguard. It takes around 10-24 months to finish moving your teeth with clear aligners, depending on how much your teeth need to be moved.

The aligner trays stay firmly in place, but you can easily remove them when you eat or brush. As a result, you don’t have any limitations on the types of foods you can eat, and it’s easy to keep your teeth clean and healthy.

Clear braces

For more complicated cases, there are clear brackets available that minimize the appearance of braces. Though the metal archwire goes through each bracket and over your teeth, it’s barely visible.

Accelerate your treatment

If you want to use clear aligners or lingual braces, but you want faster results, we may be able to combine your aligners with the PROPEL® Orthodontics system. We use the PROPEL device to make tiny holes in the bone around your teeth. These tiny holes make the bone more pliable, which speeds up tooth movement, and the PROPEL treatment also stimulates faster bone regrowth.

Here’s how to get started

If you’re ready to straighten your teeth, schedule a consultation at Glow Orthodontics. A thorough examination will rule out tooth decay, gum disease, or other potential dental problems that need to be addressed before you start your orthodontic treatment.

We may also take X-rays so that we can get a precise image of your teeth and jaw and determine if there are any issues hidden below the gumline.  After providing you with information about the process and explaining your options, you can choose the type of braces or aligners that are best for you.

If you’re ready to straighten your teeth, call Glow Orthodontics and start the journey to a beautiful smile.
